Description
This is a bridge over a lake with attached railings, built around 1860, likely designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott. The structure is made of ashlar and wrought iron. The bridge features a wide segmental-pointed arch, flanked by two smaller similar arches, and has two large and two small triangular cutwaters. Each side of the bridge has a cornice and balustrade with cusped arches between the piers and moulded coping. The railings begin at the south-west end of the bridge and extend approximately 120 meters, enclosing a section of the lake shore. The railings are supported by a chamfered ashlar plinth and consist of widely spaced rails forming two tiers of squares with richly ornamented circles. There is an ashlar pier about halfway along the railings, which has a gabled cap, and a similar shorter length of railings is attached to the south-east end of the bridge.
