Description
This is a pair of houses, dated 1867, possibly designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott for Sir John Mordaunt. They are built of brick with blue brick banding and feature a hipped tile roof with a large brick cross-axial stack. The houses have a 2-unit plan and are two storeys high, with a symmetrical two-window arrangement.
The exterior includes courses of blue brick at the sill and eaves levels, a top cogged brick cornice, and two gables with bracketed barge-boards that have arched braces supporting the collars with king posts. Each entrance is located at the ends and features a cambered head with blue brick above a plank door fitted with strap hinges. The entrances are sheltered by bracketed gabled door canopies that also have barge-boards matching those of the gables.
On the ground floor, the windows have sills and cambered heads with blue brick above 3-light transomed casements, while the first floor features similar windows with cross-casements. The returns of the houses also have similar windows. The buildings are part of a group of estate cottages and other structures.
