Description
This is a pair of houses built around 1860, possibly designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott for Sir John Mordaunt. They are constructed from brick with blue brick bands and feature a hipped tile roof adorned with fishscale patterns, some enriched cresting tiles, and a large brick cross-axial stack with a cap.
The houses are single storey plus attic and have a two-window range with taller wings on each side. The roof extends over a verandah on three sides of the front range, supported by turned posts with brackets. There are two bay windows with transomed casements arranged in a 1:3:1-light configuration, which have likely been renewed. The houses also feature two gabled roof dormers with three-light casements, and the gables are timber-framed with cusped barge-boards. Each return wing has a top cogged brick cornice, and the front entrance has a cambered head leading to plank doors. The return wing has paired windows on each floor, with those on the first floor located in a raking dormer beneath a steeply hipped gable.
The interior has not been inspected. These houses are part of a group of estate cottages and other buildings.
