Description

This former estate house, located approximately 70 metres to the north-east of Walton Hall, was built in 1869 and has been converted to time-share accommodation. It may have been designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott for Sir Charles Mordaunt. The building is constructed of brick with ashlar dressings and features gabled Welsh slate roofs, along with a brick end stack and a cross-axial stack. It has an L-plan layout with a re-entrant addition.

The exterior is two storeys high and has a two-window range. It includes a stone-coped plinth, flush ashlar bands, and a plain stepped cornice. The right gable has enriched barge-boards. The central entrance features a segmental-pointed head and an overlight above a plank door, leading to a sharply pointed gable open timber porch. On the ground floor, there is a hipped bay window to the left with a three-light single-chamfered mullioned-and-transomed window and transomed side lights, and a canted bay window to the right with similar transomed lights. The first floor has one cross-mullioned window to the right with a datestone set within a brick relieving arch, and a similar cross-mullioned window in a gabled half-dormer to the left, which has corbelled brackets and barge-boards forming an arch to the left. The building features dated rainwater heads, and the left end stack and cross-axial stack to the wing have brick caps. The rear of the house has simpler details and includes a two-storey porch. The interior has not been inspected.
