Description

This mid-to-late 18th-century cartshed and granary, now used for animal housing, stands approximately 10 metres east of Shelfield Lodge Farmhouse in Aston Cantlow. Originally likely open, the building is timber framed and weatherboarded, with some brick alterations. It has an old tile, half-hipped roof and four bays. The fourth bay on the right has a brick front with a plank door and window. A brick underbuild runs along the left return side while the gable features a doorway. Originally open at the rear, the rear is now enclosed with plank doors and corrugated iron sheeting. One end bay is bricked with a door and window. The interior features a central partition and retains the original floor, with a queen post roof. The building contributes to the group value of the surrounding historic farm buildings, including Shelfield Lodge, a stable, loosebox, archway, and a vehicle shed.
