Description

This is a house, now divided into three cottages, dating from the 17th and early 18th centuries, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The walls are of coursed squared ironstone with brick nogging, except for Midvale which is roughcast, No.2 which has scored render, and Tomlow which is stuccoed. The roof is tiled, with coped gable parapets to No.2 and Tomlow and brick end stacks. Midvale has a reduced and rendered ridge stack. The building has a roughly L-shaped plan.

It is two storeys and an attic, with a three-bay front. No.1, on the left, has a two-window range. The central doorway has an old ribbed wooden door with a wooden lintel and a 20th-century open-fronted brick porch. There are late 20th-century two and three-light casement windows. A single-storey rear addition was also added in the late 20th century.

Inside No.1, there is an open fireplace with a chamfered bressumer, although it has been altered. No.2 has a 20th-century brick lean-to in the corner, as well as a corrugated iron roof. It has a 20th-century door and window to the front, and a window to the return side. There is a single attic light to the front. The left return side has two-light, and the right return side has three-light 19th-century casements, all with single horizontal glazing bars and painted wood lintels. No.2’s interior features a large open fireplace and a broad chamfered ceiling beam.

No.3 has an entrance in the right return side, with a 20th-century timber part-glazed porch and door. There are late 20th-century windows above and to the rear, and a single-storey addition to the rear. The interior of No.3 was not inspected.
