Description
Brookside is a cottage dating from the 17th century, with later additions including wings from the early 20th century. The cottage is timber-framed, with some plaster infill and colourwashed brick, and has a hipped thatched roof with brick end stacks and a stack to the rear of the ridge. It is a 2-unit, cross wing hall house. The cottage is single-storied with an attic; it has a catslide outshut to the left of a 2-window range and a gabled wing to the right return. The entrance, located to the left of the centre, has a plank door and side light. A cross-mullioned window to the right of the centre extends to the eaves, and there are two dormer windows with two lights, all with leaded glazing. Some square framing is visible to the centre and right of the building. The wing to the right return features two small windows flanking a projecting stack with a narrow light and capped shaft. The rear elevation has varied fenestration, including a tall mullioned window, and displays square framing with a tension brace. A wing on the rear has a timber-framed first floor, jettied at the end, and a projecting end stack.
