Description
This former barn, located approximately 22 meters southwest of Old Ferry House, dates from the 16th century or early 17th century and has undergone later alterations. It is a timber-framed structure with brick infill and some stone at the plinth, topped with a partly-renewed tile roof. The barn is two stories tall and features a gable facing the front to the left, with a blocked central entrance and various windows, including 20th-century leaded casements. The square framing includes tension braces. The sides of the barn are faced in brick, with the right side having a lower gabled addition and the left side featuring a timber lean-to verandah. In the early part of the 20th century, it was used by a tennis club and has recently been acquired by the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, which is in the process of converting it (as of 1991).
