Description

No. 51 Waterside is a cottage that likely dates from the 17th century, with a refronting around 1800, later alterations, and additions made around 1950 to the rear. The building is constructed of brick, featuring some internal timber framing, and has a tile roof with a brick stack at one end. It is a single-storey structure with an attic and has a two-window range. The entrance, located to the right, is sheltered by an arch-braced gabled canopy above a 20th-century half-glazed door. The ground floor includes a canted bay window with a hipped roof and four 12-pane sashes. In the attic, there are two gabled dormers, each with two-light small-paned casements. The right side of the building reveals an exposed tie beam, while a rear wing partially projects and features a half-hipped roof with weatherboarding above the entrance. The rear of the cottage has a large wing. Inside, there is a chamfered beam and a fireplace, along with a small window and a spur wall to the side. The former rear wall shows wall posts leaning to the right and has a covered rubble plinth. The first floor contains a timber-framed wall at the rear, an exposed end tie beam, and a tie beam with a collar truss. The cottage is included for its group value.
