Lecture Hall and Scene Dock, now workshops, for the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre. 1887. By AS Flower. Brick with ashlar dressings and timber-framed gable with pebbledash infill; tile roof. Right-angle plan. 2 storeys and attic; jettied gable on moulded brackets. Tall central segmental-pointed entrance with ashlar mouldings and hood has paired studded doors with strap hinges; smaller entrance to left with 4-centred head has similar door, datestone above reads: CFE/ 1887. 3 tall single-chamfered-transomed windows; 4 square lights under jetty; gable has two 3-light windows with 2-light window above. Raking dormer to left return has window to ground floor and 2-light window to 1st floor; raking dormer; tall lateral stack. Rear has large wing to right forming L-plan; half-hipped roof and varied fenestration with casements. An interesting example of a purpose-built ancillary building to a theatre; the tall entrance was for the removal of scenery.
