Description
Napton Holt Farmhouse and attached stable is a farmhouse with an adjoining stable, dating from the mid to late 17th century, with a later addition from the mid to late 18th century on the left side. The building is constructed of coursed squared ironstone, while the addition features red brick in Flemish bond. The roof is covered with red pantiles from the 19th century and includes ridge cresting. The addition has a coped gable parapet with moulded kneelers, a brick stack at the left end, and a ridge stack made of thin bricks. The layout is a 3-unit lobby-entry plan, which has been extended to a 4-unit configuration, with the stable located in the cross-wing on the right. The farmhouse is two stories high and has a four-window range. The entrance features a part-glazed plank door, and the windows have irregular spacing. The casements are from the 19th and 20th centuries, with three lights and varying glazing bars; on the first floor, the second bay has a two-light casement, while the fourth bay has a small one-light casement. Throughout the building, there are painted wood lintels. The rear of the building is irregular in appearance.
Inside, the farmhouse has broad ogee-chamfered ceiling beams. The room on the left side features an open fireplace with a bressumer that has a fascia and moulded cornice. The kitchen also has an open fireplace and a plank door leading to a straight flight staircase with winders. The stable has had its front wall rebuilt in late 19th-century brick and features a tile roof, a buttress, and a fitch door with a relieving arch. The left return side includes a stable door and a fixed two-light window.
