Description
This is a pair of houses, located at 85 and 87 Coventry Road, Southam, built in the early to mid-18th century. The houses were originally a single dwelling, later divided into two. They are constructed of whitewashed brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with a rendered plinth and a decorative band marking the first floor on number 85. The roof is covered in tiles, with brick ridges and chimney stacks at each end. The houses have a three-room plan, and present a four-window facade. Number 85, on the left, features 19th-century two- and three-light casement windows. Number 87, on the right, has a 19th-century canted bay window on the ground floor, and two-light casement windows on the first floor. Both houses have 20th-century doors, each with a hood over the entrance. Inside number 85, original features remain, including chamfered spine beams with ogee stops and an open fireplace, although the bressumer (a beam above the fireplace) was refaced in the 19th century.
