Description

Grove Farmhouse and attached walls date from around 1700. The farmhouse is constructed of regular coursed ironstone, featuring a moulded plinth. It has a tile hipped roof with substantial internal stacks of 19th-century blue brick. The symmetrical farmhouse is arranged around a central staircase plan, with two storeys, a basement, and an attic, and a five-window front. The central doorway has a four-panelled door and a lead-latticed overlight within a moulded wooden surround, topped with a curved wooden hood. A flight of stone steps leads to the door, with a parapet along the sides. The basement level has stone mullioned windows and a three-light casement window to the left. The upper floors have lead-latticed cross windows, all with stone lintels and flush keystones. Hipped roof dormers are positioned over the second and fourth bays, each containing a lead-latticed two-light casement. The left return side has a fielded five-panelled door. A low wine cellar, likely dating from the late 18th or early 19th century, is attached to the left, featuring a slate roof, two plank doors, and three-light leaded casements with painted wooden lintels. The rear elevation is similar, with a staircase window at various levels. Inside, records from R.B. Wood-Jones describe an open well staircase with turned balusters, back-to-back fireplaces, and moulded ceiling beams. The attached walls are constructed of regular coursed ironstone with flat coping.
