Description

Sandpits Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with a front range added in the 18th century, and it was reroofed in 1864. The building is constructed of squared, coursed limestone rubble with ironstone dressings and features a plinth. It has an old tile roof with a central ridge stack that is now brick, although the original stone base remains. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a three-window range, with an L-shaped plan.

At the center, there is an old plank door with a 19th-century hood above it. The door is framed by limestone quoin surrounds, with a lintel and keyblock. To the left of the door are two blocked window openings, with their lintels still in place. To the right, there is a 19th-century casement window with a quoined surround, lintel, and keyblock. On the first floor, there are 3-light casement windows to the left and right, and above the door, there is a 2-light casement with a lintel and keyblock.

The 17th-century range at the rear has a window opening that may have once been a mullioned window, featuring a chamfered lintel, hood mould, and label stops. There is also another 17th-century window opening at the internal angle of the range, with a moulded surround, hood mould, and label stops, as well as a blocked window opening above it. Attached to the rear is a mid-19th-century one-storey range, dated 1864. To the right, there is a late 18th-century brick range with casements and segmental arches. Inside, the farmhouse is said to have a 4-centred fireplace upstairs. A datestone outside is inscribed with "REROOFED 1864."
