Description

A terrace of four houses, numbered 1, 2, and 3 (with numbers 3 and 4 now combined as Greystoke Cottage), was built in 1855. The terrace comprises School Cottages (numbers 1 and 2), and Greystoke Cottage (number 3). The houses are constructed from coursed squared blue lias stone with ashlar dressings, and have a tile roof with a central stone stack and end stacks with brick shafts.

The two-storey, symmetrical front has a four-window arrangement. Each house has an entrance within a gabled porch with a coped gable, featuring two small lights with shouldered lintels. The left return of the left-hand porch is blocked. The inner entrances are visible, with one to the right-hand porch also blocked. Number 1 has a plank outer door. The windows have narrow sills and chamfered reveals, and are ovolo-mullioned, two-light windows with sliding iron lattice casements, those on the first floor having gablets with plain bargeboards. The rear elevation is similar and features four entrances. A 20th-century wood and glass porch is located at the right end. The interior has not been inspected.
