Description
This is a row of eight headstones located approximately 7.5 meters east of the chancel of the Church of All Saints in Burton Dassett. The headstones date from the mid and late 17th century, early and mid 18th century, and 19th century. They are made of carved and moulded ironstone.
The first headstone, dated 1712, features a moulded segmental top with a central cartouche supported by cherubs, surrounded by swag and foliage around the inscription dedicated to Frances W. The second headstone, from 1695, has a scrolled pediment and a moulded panel adorned with acanthus leaves, inscribed for Wittle. The third headstone, dated 1639, has a segmental top with a finial and a moulded panel, featuring a Latin inscription that is also inscribed on the reverse. The seventh headstone, from 1688, includes a sunk panel and scrollwork, inscribed for John Franklin. The remaining headstones do not possess special architectural interest.
