Description

Old Grove Farmhouse, now a house, dates from the late 17th and early 18th centuries, with a 19th-century outhouse and 20th-century alterations. The main structure is timber-framed and covered with rendered surfaces and mock framing, with brick wings, plain-tile roofs, and a slate roof to a lean-to section. A two-unit plan rear wing also exists with a lean-to extension.

The exterior is two storeys high with a three-window front. The first floor has a three-light casement, a single-light casement, and a two-light casement. The ground floor has a two-light and a three-light casement. A central entrance is within a glazed passage, which connects to a 19th-century brick outhouse extension that features a three-light casement. To the left return are a three-light and a two-light casement on each floor of the rear wing. A central ridge stack is present. The lean-to has a catslide roof.

The interior reveals timber framing with jowled studs, chamfered spine beams, and an open fireplace with brick piers. Plank doors are also present. Tie-beam trusses with one purlin, likely renewed in the early 19th century, are visible. A further small open fireplace is situated on the right side, although its stack has been removed. The building forms a group with Benson’s Barn and Country Cottage.
