Description
Two tunnels, located approximately 120 meters southeast of Ettington Park Hotel, are a garden folly built in the 18th century or possibly the 19th century. They are constructed from coursed limestone and feature two adjacent barrel-vaulted tunnels that are slightly curved in plan, with entrances at either end. Each tunnel measures about 1 meter wide and 2 meters high, and they include circular ventilation or light shafts approximately every 4 meters, topped with wrought iron grilles. The first tunnel has a baffle entrance at one end, while the second tunnel contains a short spur tunnel that leads to a wider entrance chamber. Ettington Park, where these tunnels are situated, is an ancient deer park that was landscaped in the 18th century and underwent alterations when the main house was modified and enlarged between 1853 and 1862.
