Description

Ragley Hall's principal entrance lodge, located to the north, is a gate lodge, wall, and gates built around 1785. Constructed from lias ashlar with sandstone dressing, it features a 20th-century asbestos slate roof and a central stone chimney. The lodge has rusticated quoins, a moulded plinth, and a cornice. It is a single-storey, one-window cube flanked by lower narrow bays that contain round-headed niches. A concave quadrant wall curves forward to a pier with a niche and quoins, showcasing a classical design. The late 18th-century sash window has a moulded stone architrave and pediment, with a blind balustrade below. A shallow pyramid roof sits behind a parapet, and the rear elevation is identical to the front. The entrance on the left-hand return side features a portico with two Tuscan columns in antis, a framed panel above, and a flat six-panel door with a moulded architrave. The wrought iron pedestrian and carriage gates, designed with a spear motif, are complemented by openwork piers that hold original lanterns. The interior has not been inspected.
