Description

This headstone, located approximately 18 meters south of the Church of St. John the Baptist, dates back to 1779. It is made of slate and features low bas-relief decorations that depict the tools of the trade of Thomas Bolton of Combefields, a faggoter. The inscription reads: "This man his character to sum/from infancy was deaf and dumb/His understanding yet was clear/His heart was upright and sincere/He chiefly got his livelihood/By fagotry and felling wood/Till death the Conqueror of All/Gave the feller himself a fell."
