Description

No.4 is a cottage dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, with 19th-century additions to the right and rear. The original section is timber-framed with tension braces, and features whitewashed brick infill. A corner and the return side are of whitewashed brick with painted sham framing. The right-hand range is whitewashed, and another range to the rear forms an L-shaped plan. The roof is thatched, while the rear wing is tiled. There are brick end stacks. The right range has corrugated asbestos roof sheeting. The cottage has one storey and an attic, with a two-window front. A central 19th-century plank door is sheltered by a shallow hood supported on shaped brackets. The ground floor has three-light 19th-century casement windows with horizontal glazing bars. Swept half-dormers contain two-light windows, one 20th century and one older. The right-hand range includes a plank door set within a brick segmental arch. The interior was not inspected.
