Description

Limekiln Farmhouse is an 18th-century farmhouse with later additions and alterations from the late 19th century. It is constructed of Flemish stretcher bond brick, with a dentil cornice to the additions. The roof is of old plain tiles, with brick stacks at the left end and on the ridge. The farmhouse has a cross plan, with two storeys and a one-storey-and-attic section, and comprises three bays. The front, facing the garden, has an 18th-century two-storey range on the left, distinguished by a string course. A 20th-century wood mullioned and transomed three-light window is on the ground floor, and a three-light casement window above. A large, projecting 18th or 19th-century wing has a late 19th-century two-storey bay window with a sham timber framing that rises into a gable. The ground floor of this wing features a full-length three-light chamfered wood mullioned window with a transom. The left return side of this wing contains a half-glazed fielded four-panelled door and a small sash window, with a two-light casement positioned above. The right range has a two-light ground-floor casement window. All ground-floor openings are topped with brick segmental arches. Most of the windows have horizontal glazing bars. The left return side of the main range features brickwork tumbling to a gable. The rear of the building has a 20th-century cross window and a two-light casement above. A rear wing extends to the left, and includes a further single-storey range. A plank door is present in an angle. A four-light casement and a three-light eyebrow half-dormer are visible above. The interior of a room in the main range includes an open fireplace with a cambered bressumer.
