Description
Manor Farmhouse, along with its attached wall and gateway, dates from the early 18th century and has mid-19th century alterations. The building is constructed of Flemish bond brick with sandstone dressings, featuring a painted wood modillion and moulded cornice. It has a hipped and gabled roof covered with old plain tiles and rebuilt brick ridge stacks. The farmhouse has a central staircase plan and stands two storeys high with an attic. Originally consisting of five bays, it now presents a three-window range on the symmetrical main front facing the garden.
This front has a brick and moulded stone plinth, rusticated alternating quoins, and a string course. The bolection-moulded doorcase features a carved keystone with a mask and a large semi-circular pediment with remnants of shell moulding, leading to a 20th-century half-glazed door. The ground floor showcases mid-19th century brickwork and large 16-pane sash windows with brick flat arches. The first floor has the first and fifth bays bricked up, while the second bay retains its original sash window, and the central window is a late 20th-century top-hung sash. The fourth bay contains a 19th-century sash window. The alternate bays have gauged brick flat arches with stone console keystones.
Two 19th-century roof dormers feature 2-light casements with horizontal glazing bars, and the roof is hipped to the right. The left side of the building has twin gables, and there is an irregular two-storey wing at right angles. The right return side has four bays, while the five-bay rear has most openings blocked or altered. Inside, there is an open-well staircase with column-on-vase balusters, along with 2-panelled, 6-panelled, and moulded plank doors.
The attached wall and gateway, positioned at right angles to the left of the garden front, date from the early 18th century, with the gateway rebuilt in the mid-19th century. This structure is made of brick with stone coping, featuring square piers and a segmental arch, topped with stone ball finials on conical bases. The wall is approximately 2 metres high and 10 metres long.
