Description

The screen wall, along with an attached garden feature and wall, is located west of Arbury Hall. The screen wall is possibly from the 17th century, with alterations made in the late 18th or early 19th century. It is constructed of brick with some stone dressings, featuring rusticated alternating quoins at the lower part and a stone-coped embattled parapet. A moulded cornice serves as a string course for the raised end sections, which have a more elaborate cornice and larger battlements.

The garden feature includes two re-erected Elizabethan bay windows, likely taken from Arbury Hall, with an arched seat positioned between them. This feature is made of sandstone and includes large, 5-light avolo-moulded mullioned and transomed windows that are now blocked. The angles are adorned with two tiers of Tuscan pilasters, and there is a moulded cornice and an ornamented frieze. The seat features a lower moulded Tudor arch with moulded spandrels, a cornice, an entablature, and a wooden bench seat.

To the right, there is a lower section of wall adjoining the gatehouse, dating from the 17th or 18th century. The front is made of brick, with a return section of sandstone ashlar. It has a blocked segmental-arched doorway, with another doorway inserted below and to the left. Above, there are three small shaped openings, and the top features vents. A Jacobean openwork stone balustrade sits atop, which has been reused from another part of the garden.
