Description
This is a threshing barn located approximately 200 meters southeast of New House Farmhouse, dating from the mid-17th century. It is timber-framed with red brick infill and has a plain-tiled roof. The barn consists of four bays, with enlarged openings on the northwest side wall and small framing that reaches a height of three panels. There is upward bracing from the main posts to the wall plate.
Inside, the barn features four original bays, with each truss constructed in a Queen-post style. The through-purlins are trenched to the backs of the principals and supported on blocks. The tie-beams are braced and have jowled heads, while wind bracing is present between the principal rafters and purlins. The principal rafters are halved at the apex. In the 19th century, king-post trusses were added for additional strength.
