Description
This is a late 17th-century threshing barn located approximately 15 meters west of The Elms. It is timber-framed and partly built on a sandstone plinth, with most of the infill panels made of brick. The upper walls are covered in weatherboarding, and the outer walls of the south-west bay have been rebuilt in brick. The barn has a three-bay range that is aligned north-south and encloses the west side of a former farmyard. It is one storey high with two tiers of rectangular panels up to the eaves level. There is a large central cart entrance, a brick bay to the left that features a right-hand plank door, and a left-hand brick extension with garage doors. The right-hand gable reveals an exposed queen strut roof truss, and there is additional exposed framing at the rear with straight braces. Inside, the roof trusses have raking struts extending from the tie beam to the principal rafters, supporting one pair of purlins and featuring curved wind braces.
