Description

This listing describes a cottage and watermill located on the south side of Coleshill Road in Furnace End. The cottage dates from the early 17th century and the late 18th or early 19th century. It features a timber frame that is exposed on the rear wall, while the front is either cased or rebuilt in brick. The cottage has a plain-tiled roof with a ridge stack, consists of two bays, and is one storey high with an attic. The rear elevation shows small framing that is two panels high. It has 20th-century casement windows. The gable end includes queen struts supporting the through purlin roof.

Adjoining the cottage to the south is the former watermill, which dates from the 18th and 19th centuries. This structure is built of coursed sandstone and red brick, with English bond and flared brick dressings, and has a blue/black plain-tile roof. The mill stands four storeys tall with a loft, and there is a mill race at the southeast end, which is currently dry. On the southwest side wall, there is a timber lucam supported by brackets. The gable end features an iron casement window with a pivot light.
