Description
The Red Lion Inn is a pair of houses that have been converted into an inn. It dates from the late 18th century, with extensions added in the early 19th century and alterations made in the 20th century. The building is constructed from coursed dressed and squared stone, featuring raised painted window surrounds with corbels, bands at floor levels, and rusticated quoins. It has a tiled roof and end stacks, although one stack has been moved to the center of the building.
The inn is divided into two parts but has a flush frontage and continuous eaves. The left part, which is from the 18th century, has three windows and three storeys, with glazing bar sashes, some of which have been replaced with casements. The two windows on the ground floor to the left have paired frames. The entrance is located to the left of center and features a pilastered surround, a frieze, a cornice, and a part-glazed door. The right-hand part of the building is only two storeys tall and has two windows, similar in detail to the rest of the inn, including a paired frame on the ground floor to the right. It also has central pedimented doorcases with part-glazed doors.
