Description

This is a milepost located approximately 5 meters south of the Stafford Road Bridge on the Trent and Mersey Canal, dating from 1814. It was created by Rangeley and Dixon (or Diggles) and is made of cast iron. The milepost features a round post that supports a bowed rectangular panel with lettering. On the left side, it indicates "SHARDLOW/ 47/ MILES," and on the right side, it reads "PRESTON/ BROOK/ 45/ MILES." There is also a small plate on the post that states "R & D/ STONE/ 1814."
