Description
The Swan Public House is a warehouse that has been converted into a public house, dating from the 1770s. It is constructed of brick with a tile roof and features brick end stacks. The building stands three storeys tall and has a two-window range, with an additional four-storey, single-window range to the right. A top brick cornice adorns the structure. There are recesses on the upper floors to the left of the centre and to the left of the four-storey range, likely intended for loading doors. The entrance is highlighted by a doorcase that includes a frieze, cornice, and a lantern above a four-panel door. All windows, except for those on the top floor, have rubbed brick cambered arches and are fitted with casements; the top floor of the four-storey range has a boarded window. The rear of the building features large blocked windows on the top floor. It was likely built in connection with the nearby wharf on the Trent and Mersey Canal around 1771.
