Description
Standon Old Hall is a 17th century building that has undergone considerable additions and renovations while maintaining its historical character. It features a timber frame and painted brick exterior, generally roughcast, and stands two storeys plus an attic with overhangs at both the first and second floors. The front of the building includes a projecting gabled bay on the left side, which is part of a later addition, and another projecting gabled bay on the right side that has two gables. The façade has four windows, which are plain wood mullioned casement windows with frames that project on brackets, typically featuring leaded lights. There is a prominent seven-light window at the centre, topped by a gabled dormer with early 19th century pointed lights. A doorway located on the west side of the right-hand bay has an arched head and an oak ledged door. The building is adorned with massive brick chimneys on the east side of the left bay, on the west elevation, and at the rear, all featuring red brick diagonal stacks. The roof is hipped and covered with tiles. Although the interior has been significantly altered, it still retains some exposed ceiling beams.
