Description
The Newport Road Bridge (number 45) and stop gate, located on the Shropshire Union Canal, were built around 1829 to 1832 and designed by Thomas Telford. The bridge is constructed of stone, featuring a stone band and copings. It has a single elliptical arch made of voussoirs, with solid parapets and piers. There are two iron rope fenders, and a service pipe is attached to the south side of the bridge. To the north, there is a single modern stop gate set in a stone recess.
