Description

The farm buildings at Knighton Hall Farm were built in 1831 for the Haberdashers Company. They are constructed from red brick and topped with slate roofs, featuring dentilated brick eaves. The layout consists of three ranges of cattle stalls with hay lofts above, arranged symmetrically around a central courtyard.

The northeast facade has two prominent gabled cross wings that project slightly from the main one-and-a-half storey range, which includes an off-centre doorway with a plank door. Above this doorway are two large circular pitching eyes. Each cross wing features a large segmental arched opening with double plank doors that have ashlar hinge blocks. Above these doors are sets of three round-headed recessed lancets, with the central lancet being taller. The main range continues on either side of the wings with a single circular pitching eye.

Slightly recessed beyond the main range are single-storey sections that connect to the side ranges, each with gabled fronts containing a pair of segment-headed cart openings. The inner courtyard facade mirrors the main range, but with regularly spaced stable doors with segment heads on the ground floor. Above the double doors on the left cross wing is a small iron plaque displaying the coat-of-arms of the Haberdashers Company and the date 1831. The single-storey side wings also have regularly placed stable doors, with slightly taller pavilions at the ends, each featuring a circular pitching eye within the gable. Above the apex of these pavilions are two sets of flight perches and three pigeon holes. Inside, the buildings have pegged king post truss roofs.
