Description
The Shebdon Aqueduct, built around 1829-1832, is an aqueduct on the Shropshire Union Canal designed by Thomas Telford. It features similar stone posts on the north and south sides, each with semi-circular arches made of voussoirs and impost bands that extend through the tunnel. Inside the tunnel, the stonework is decorated with banded rustication. Each post has right-angled wing walls and stone copings. Above the south post, the canal embankment is topped with sloping brick paving that leads up to a plain brick parapet wall, which is not part of the original structure.
