Description

NORBURY SHROPSHIRE UNION CANAL SJ 72 SE 603/7/18 Boat Maintenance workshop, on east side of canal, Norbury Junction at 792 227 GV II

Boat maintenance workshop. Early Mid C19, C20 alterations. Single storey brick building. Large, hipped slate roof, overhanging at eaves. Double sliding wooden doors on north side allowing entrance from canal dock. Early C20 bay window at north east corner. Various original cambered windows with small-paned cast-iron frames on west, south and east sides. West side has C19 extensions, and tall tapering chimney stack of former steam engine. Interior: industrial king post truss roof. C20 concrete dry dock. Norbury was a canal commuity centred upon the junction of the Birmingham and Liverpool junction canal (near the Shropshire Union Canal) with its Newport Branch.
