Description

Broad Street Warehouse is a canal warehouse built between 1869 and 1871 for the Shropshire Union Canal and Railways Company. It is located by a branch of the Birmingham Canal Navigation in Wolverhampton. The building is constructed of brick with blue brick and ashlar dressings, featuring a double-span slate roof with brick stacks.

The warehouse has an L-plan and stands two storeys tall. It has tall panels and a top brick cornice. To the left, there is a cart entrance with a girder under a brick relieving arch, along with a return segmental-headed loading door. The right end has two gables with roundels that have grilles. There are three boarded windows with ashlar lintels and brick relieving arches. The left end has a stack and two lateral stacks that are truncated. The right return features two boarded windows that were originally sashes, while the rear has two gables on the wing. There is a girder for the boat hole to the left under a relieving arch, a small lean-to addition to the left, and a segmental-headed window with a small-paned casement to the right. The right end has windows with four-pane sashes.

The interior of the warehouse is well-preserved, featuring round iron columns that support girders. There is a crane located beside the boat hole, and the first floor has round iron columns that support timber beams and tie beam trusses, along with some hoisting gear.
