Description
Lloyd House is a small country house built in the late 18th century, with later additions. It features a combination of ashlar and red brick, topped with a hipped slate roof and brick integral end stacks. The house is oriented north-east to south-west and faces south-east. It has two storeys, with a reduced height on the first floor. The exterior includes a plinth with moulded coping, a reeded first floor band, a cyma reversa moulded eaves band, and dentilled overhanging eaves. The facade is arranged in a 3:3:3 bay configuration, with glazing bar sashes set in beaded openings. A central bowed projection features a hipped roof and a colonnade of two unfluted Ionic giant columns, accessible by a flight of three steps. The entrance includes a central two-leaf half-glazed door flanked by fixed light windows, all topped with rectangular overlights.
At the rear, the house has three storeys with reduced proportions on the second floor and a dentilled parapet. There is a central porch supported by Tuscan columns, with a cornice and flat roof.
Inside, the entrance hall features a late 18th-century stone fireplace with a bracketed mantlepiece, a plaster frieze, and a foliated plaster ceiling centre. Directly opposite the front door is a semi-elliptical recess containing a door flanked by a pair of semi-circular arched niches, leading to a late 18th-century staircase with an ornamental wrought iron balustrade, a wooden wreathed handrail, and a carved wooden foot newel. The dining room includes a wide semi-elliptical arched recess to the north-west with a floral frieze, a foliated plaster ceiling centre, and a plaster frieze of egg dart and foliage. The drawing room features a late 18th-century fireplace made of Carrara marble, flanked by two Ionic columns.
