Description
Wodehouse Farmhouse and Mill is a Grade II* listed building dating from the early 18th century. It consists of a farmhouse and a water-powered corn mill, constructed of red brick with a plain tile roof and brick integral end stacks. The building is aligned north-south and faces west, with the mill attached to the north end of the house. The mill is located to the left, while the house is set back to the right.
The farmhouse features three storeys, with reduced proportions on the second floor, and includes storey bands and an eaves band. It has four bays with casement windows that have segmental heads, wooden mullions, and transoms, along with leaded lights on the first and second floors. There is a door to the right of centre with a rectangular overlight.
The mill also has three storeys and a toothed eaves band, with three bays. It features windows in the centre of the ground and first floors, and doors on the ground and first floors to the right and on the ground floor to the left, all with segmental heads. The second floor has blind panels.
Inside, the mill machinery is complete and in working order, including a massive cast iron overshot water wheel with two sets of eight arms, inscribed "G and R Turton Kiddr. 1840." There are two pairs of stones, one pair of bevels above the crown wheel, and a sack hoist on the top floor. An outhouse to the east contains an external iron wheel, and its interior has an overshot iron water wheel that drives a chaff cutter and pulper.
