Description
This is a cartshed located approximately 50 yards north-east of Mere Hall, dating from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of red brick and features a corrugated iron roof. The building is aligned north-south and faces south, standing two storeys high with a dentilled eaves band and two roof bays.
The south gable includes two cart entrances with keyed semi-circular arches supported by stone imposts, and a first-floor Serlian motif set beneath a keyed semi-circular arch. The north gable mirrors this with corresponding cart entrances, a segmental-headed window, and a blind panel above. There is a door on the first floor to the west, accessed by a flight of stone and brick steps.
Inside, the first floor is supported by heavy chamfered cross beams resting on brick piers and features two king-post roof trusses. This cartshed is part of a symmetrical complex that once served a now-demolished house.
