Description
The barn attached to the west end of Shutlanehead Farmhouse is a 17th-century structure that has been partly rebuilt in the mid-19th century. It is timber-framed, featuring mid-19th century purplish-brown brick infill and gable ends made of vitrified brick, topped with a plain tiled roof. The barn has two levels, with an inserted hayloft. On the west side, there are three rows of ventilators on the left and right, along with two eaves hatches. The barn has stable doors located in the centre and to the right, with a blocked opening above the central door. The centre also reveals two wall posts and part of a raised timber cill. Inside, the barn has a queen-post roof supported by three bays, with double-purlins and straight wind braces. The barn is noted for the complete survival of its framing and roof structure. Shutlanehead Farmhouse is not included in this listing.
