Description
Bradwell Hall is a former farmhouse that has been converted into a nursing home. The building features painted brick on a stone plinth and has a plain tiled roof. It was refronted in the late 18th century, although it incorporates elements from an earlier structure dating back to the late 16th or early 17th century, with traces of this earlier building still visible inside.
The hall is two stories high and consists of five bays, with projecting hipped-roofed wings. A large projecting chimney stack is located on the eastern gable, with additional stacks at the rear. There is a doorway to the left of the central range, which is sheltered by a recently added porch. The windows have been renewed and feature sashes with flat arched stuccoed heads, including a tripartite sash in the center.
Inside, substantial remains of the earlier building are preserved, including a roof structure with jowled queen posts, part of a staircase with flat balusters, and moulded timber posts and beams, some of which have been relocated to upper rooms. A lower room features a square-panelled ceiling, and there is a plaster overmantel upstairs that displays the arms of Queen Elizabeth I.
