Description

The north portal of the Harecastle Railway Tunnel is a railway tunnel portal built in 1848 for the North Staffordshire Railway, with later alterations. It is constructed of engineering brick in English bond and features a semi-elliptical arch surrounded by a rusticated frame made of hammer-dressed ashlar. This arch is supported by wide pilaster buttresses and topped with an ashlar blocking course.
