Description

The bridge over the Macclesfield Canal, built in 1829, is a towing path bridge made of red brick in English bond with ashlar dressings. It features a single semi-elliptical arch constructed with rusticated voussoirs. The bridge has a stone parapet band leading to a plain parapet, which is terminated by square piers on the south side, while the north side curves into the ground. On both sides of the bridge, there are stone panels inscribed with "MACCLESFIELD / CANAL / MDCCCXXXIIII". The Macclesfield Canal was opened in 1831, and the engineer was William Crosley.
