Description
14 and 16 High Street is a building located in Newcastle under Lyme that dates back to the early 17th century, with modifications made in the early 19th century. Originally dwellings, the premises were once used as an inn and are now shop spaces. The structure is timber-framed, featuring painted render that mimics timbering, with close studding and a middle rail. It has a plain tiled roof adorned with scalloped bands. The building is two stories high with an attic and consists of two bays. The ground floor has an inserted shop front, while the upper storey jetties out and includes two oriel windows with mullions. The attic dormers have long mullioned lights. The building is also decorated with ornately carved barge boards that have finials, and it features gable stacks.
