Description
The Malkin Memorial is a chest tomb located approximately 14 meters north-west of the Church of St Mary and All Saints in Whitmore. It dates from the early 19th century and is constructed from sandstone ashlar. The tomb has a rectangular plan with a plain, slightly chamfered top ledger that projects outward, and it features fluted corner pilasters. The top ledger commemorates Thomas Malkin, who died in 1816, along with his son Thomas and his wife Ann, both of whom died in 1817. At the time of the re-survey in 1984, a considerable amount of soil had accumulated around the tomb.
