Description

This is a late 17th-century farmhouse, with a later 18th-century extension and minor alterations around 1900. The farmhouse is built of red and brown brick in a Flemish bond pattern, set on a sandstone plinth, with a plain tile roof and raised verges. Brick stacks are located externally, one at the end and one laterally. The building has a T-shaped plan, with the main range running east-west and facing north, and a two-storey rear wing. It is two storeys high with a gable-lit attic, and features storey bands. The front has three windows, with casements dating back to about 1900 set into earlier 17th-century openings, each with stone lintels that mimic the appearance of gauged brickwork. A flat-roofed porch, constructed in the late 20th century, is located centrally in front of the main entrance, which also has a similar stone lintel. The rear wing has two storeys and two bays.

Inside, a 17th-century newel staircase with a faceted finial is located at the south end of the central entrance passage, which provides access to two ground floor rooms. The eastern room contains a fireplace with a bolection moulded surround, 17th-century oak wall panelling incorporating cupboards, and a window seat. It also has stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops. The western room retains a 17th-century rear cross-window with ovolo-moulded mullions and transoms. An old photograph of the house shows that this window design was originally used throughout the principal range.
