Description
WALSALL MB FORGE LANE SK 00 SE 5/37 Little Aston Mill and house adjoining to north-east GV II
Water-powered corn mill and house. Probably mid-C19 with C18 remains, on earlier site. Brick with tile roofs. South-east elevation has house at right, of one storey with attic, with string course. The earlier part has a window, with a door to both sides, and two timber attic dormers. Beyond a straight joint to the right is a one-bay addition which has a window with segmental head. To the rear of the house are further additions. To the left, continuing the roof-line of the house at a higher level, is the mill, with a wheelpit at the left, an iron wheel visible through an arched opening in the left-hand gable wall. Immediately to the left of the house a gabled wing projects forward, of two storeys with attic. Its front gable wall has openings with plain reveals to the first and attic floors. At the right on the ground floor is a door. Interior: the left-hand room of the house has a chamfered beam and a brick inglenook. The mill has timber floors and still contains some of its machinery, including the wheel, gearing, vertical shaft, stones, chutes and sack hoist.
