Description

Home Farmhouse is a house built in the early 19th century. It features painted render and pebbledash over brick, with some stone dressings, and has a tiled roof with coped gables. The building has a double-depth plan, with the main facade facing south and three gables at the rear. The facade consists of two storeys plus an attic, with blind recesses and three bays, and it has chamfered quoins. The windows are glazing bar sashes with plain reveals and projecting sills.

The central doorway is flanked by pilaster strips and has brackets supporting a flat moulded stone hood, which is topped by an added timber hood. There are two external sandstone steps with nosings leading up to the door, which is made of three panels and is now glazed, featuring a fanlight above. At the rear of the main range, there are two large chimney caps.

Inside, the farmhouse has extensive barrel-vaulted cellars. Most doors are six raised and fielded panels, and some original fireplaces remain. The ground and first-floor rooms on the front and left-hand side have plain plaster cornices. Arched openings with plaster mouldings lead off the stairwell on each storey, with two arches in the ground-floor hallway. The open-well staircase rises to the attic level, featuring an open string with shaped tread brackets on the lower flight, while the upper flights have closed strings. The turned newels and ramped handrails are made of walnut, the treads are of oak, and the stick balusters are painted.
