Description

Ashmore Brook Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 16th, 17th, and early 19th centuries. It is constructed of red brick and timber framing, with a plain tile roof and two gable and one lateral brick stacks. The building follows an "H" plan, with a two-story, medieval timber-framed hall house at the centre, which was floored in during the 17th century and later clad in brick. The garden front has two bays, with a glazing bar sash window to the right and a canted bay window with glazing bar sashes to the left. Above are two, three-light casement windows. The entrance front features a cross wing to the left, with a glazing bar sash window on the ground floor and a three-light casement above. A projecting battlemented porch sits in the re-entrant angle, with a moulded surround and a flat hood. The central former hall has a three-light casement window to both floors, and a part-glazed 20th-century door to the right. A projecting rear cross wing has a single doorway and a three-light casement window, with a similar flat-headed window above. All other remaining windows have segmental brick heads. Inside, there is an early 19th-century staircase and doors. The hall retains its main posts and beams, and the roof has arched braces. The inserted floor retains massive stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops on the ceiling of the kitchen.
