Description

The main gateway to Blithfield Hall, along with its flanking walls, dates from around 1820. It is constructed of brick that is plastered and lined to resemble ashlar. The gateway features a four-centred arch with nail-studded doors, panelled spandrels, and a hood mould that ends in heads. Above the arch is a moulded string that leads to a crenellated parapet, which is situated between two octagonal corner turrets that have pseudo machicolated battlements. The gateway is flanked by short sections of battlemented wall, each ending with a battlemented octagonal turret. The turret on the right side connects to the screen wall of the kitchen courtyard, while the left turret is joined by a low crenellated and buttressed wall that slopes down to meet the south wall of the outer courtyard.
